SOLO & ENSEMBLE INFORMATION-2019

Solo & Ensemble Festival is an opportunity for band students, who are studying privately or who would like an added musical challenge, to prepare either a solo or an ensemble for a judge. The student will receive a “rating” on their performance and suggestions for improvement. Medals are awarded for “Division I and Division II” Ratings.
ENTRY FEES: $14 – per Solo; $17 – per Piano Solo; $16 – per Duet;
$21 – per Trio; $28 – per Quartet; $35 – per Quintet

I/We understand and agree that: 1) I/We will rehearse on a regular basis to prepare my/our selection (s); 2) If the event is canceled for any reason, the entry fee is non-refundable; 3) The event is compliant with MSBOA rules, and I/We will represent Jeannette JHS in an appropriate manner. And, 4) I will have to find, provide, and pay a piano accompanist if my solo requires one.

GENERAL INFORMATION:
- Each student is limited to two (2) events. If a student enters more than one (1) solo, the events must be performed on different instruments.
- No participant may enter two (2) like events. (IE: Two Clarinet Duets)
- If the piece requires a piano accompaniment, it must be played, or the student will be disqualified. Note: A student accompanist who plays for three (3) events is entitled to a 1st Division Medal, if the director submits a written request to the Festival Headquarters.
- The entry fee for Solo & Ensemble includes a medal and sticker for I or II Ratings.
- A student that is playing a SOLO for Solo & Ensemble must be taking PRIVATE LESSONS.
- When signing up for Solo & Ensemble, you must tell Mrs. Phillips your accompanist and show the music selection that you are planning to perform. No music or accompanist, no S & E.
PERFORMANCE RULES:
- Students must provide judges with an ORIGINAL SCORE. Absolutely no photocopies may be given to adjudicators. No copying will be allowed at S & E site.
- Each entrant must provide a legible score with the measures numbered. NO NUMBERED SCORE…NO RATING.
- The name of the entrant, event number and school name must be placed at the top of each adjudicator’s score.
- Senior High Time Limit: 2-5 minutes. Junior High Time Limit: 1.5-4 minutes.
- Ensembles must be performed using one person per part as defined in the score.
- No memorization is required.

- If you have multiple events, separate envelopes must be used.
